Rolling Like a River

There is a very logical part of my brain that realizes that there's nothing incredible about the fact that my son can roll over. It's rather mundane. Something that every baby achieves sooner or later. Heck, dogs can do. Granted, my dogs wouldn't. Not on command anyway. But that's a subject for another blog.

But I won't lie. The moment he realized how to lift his shoulder high enough to move his arm from beneath him and complete the roll over, a miniature chorus of angels burst into song in my heart. Surely, he's a genius! A tiny, perfect, amazing gift from God whose talents extend beyond being unspeakably adorable and extend in to motor skills!

And as much as I know this is just one of hundreds of milestones he'll reach in development, it blows my little mind. I'm telling you, the miracle of human life is beyond comprehenscion. Now I'm not talking conception, pregnacy or birth here, which are all amazing in themselves. But just the fascinating process of infant development is enough to make a person ponder the origins of the universe. Every time he reaches for the toys hanging from the bar on his bouncy chair or attempts to put something in his mouth, I am flabergasted that he has come so far so fast.

Was it really almost five months ago he was just a tiny lump in a blanket? Opening his eyes was laborious. Lifting his head wasn't thinkable. But every day brings new challenges for him and new ways for me to be amazed at his growth and his capacity to take on so much so fast.

I know this is nothing new. I know every mom experiences this. But as mundane as it may be that hundreds of babies learned to roll over this week, it still brings my heart unspeakable joy to see it happen for myself with my little guy. And there's so much more to look forward to!

On a completely different note, I finished my first graduate level class today, and it kicked my butt, to be perfectly honest. I expected it to be challenging, but this kicked me down a few notches and made me struggle and push to get through. But it's done. Hopefully I passed!

Also: we're heading to Stonehenge and the town of Salisbury this week. Good times! Expect pictures soon! :)
